With "new technological" developments being born every day, you would think a new and improved mud product might be the magical solution for regaining control of those caving red shales. Some people might call these shales the Pencil Cave. Our experience has shown that the old "tried and true" bentonite gel system is still the best system for this application.

The ability of this fluid to create thick wall cakes, high yield points and high gel strengths, when needed, is the key to its success. High pump rates for high annular velocities are not always necessary or recommendable. Hence, the operator still has a fighting chance to finish his well without having to enlist expensive, high-volume and high-pressure mud pumps.

We have taken this bentonite gel system (M-I GEL) and enhanced it with small additions of specialized polymers and chemicals. The end result is an exemplary fluid system that can clean up and stabilize "all" Devonian and younger formations in any part of the Northeast.

We have never had to walk away from a "lost hole" when formation stability was the problem. The M-I GEL bentonite system has proven itself to still be the mud of choice for caved wells.

When the well location size is limited, we can use the existing Earth pit and provide a portable mixing hopper and mixing pump. If location space will permit, NEMSco can provide a service rig tank with which to mix and circulate the fluid. This tank is a self-contained system with both mixing capability and a shale shaker.
